At the age of 16, he was awarded a scholarship to the Royal College of Music, followed by studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Paris Conservatoire. Galway has also collaborated on film soundtracks such as The Lord of the Rings and partnered with popular artists such as Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Joni Mitchell and Sir Elton John.Ī native of Northern Ireland, Galway began his flute studies in Belfast. Throughout his extensive career, he has performed with many of the world’s top orchestras and conductors and toured extensively internationally.
Renowned flautist, Sir James Galway has performed worldwide, has 98 albums to his name and has sold 30 million recordings. He composed an array of music including a number of violin concertos and a variety of other instruments, sacred choral works and over forty operas. He was also a respected violinist and teacher.
